Nissan Vision Webster 2025 Nissan Lineup

The sedan segment in the United States continues its decline as automakers increasingly prioritize SUVs and pickup trucks over traditional four-door cars. Now, it seems that two additional sedans are poised for discontinuation. According to a report from Automotive News, both the Nissan Altima and Versa are expected to be phased out after the 2025 model year. While the publication doesn’t cite specific sources, an examination of the forthcoming product lineup indicates the absence of these two sedans. Worth noting is Nissan’s recent discontinuation of the Maxima, marking a significant departure from offering gasoline-powered sedans once the Altima and Versa bid their farewell.

Car and Driver proactively reached out to Nissan to confirm the report published by Automotive News. In reply, a spokesperson from Nissan provided the following statement:

“We are continuing to invest in the sedan segment to offer our customers great-looking cars equipped with convenient, entertaining and safety-enhancing technologies. As we accelerate towards realizing Nissan’s Ambition 2030 vision we have many exciting plans in development, but we don’t have anything to share at this time.”

Changing Demand for Sedans

Although there has been a recent decline in the popularity of sedans, it’s important to recognize that these vehicles often deliver superior driving dynamics owing to their lower center of gravity. The Nissan Altima provides a notable illustration of this. In previous years, it held the title of Nissan’s second-best-selling vehicle, with a noteworthy total of 139,955 units sold. Surprisingly, in the first half of 2023, it continued to maintain its second-place position in terms of sales, outperforming other Nissan models such as the Frontier, Kicks, and Pathfinder. As a result, this decision by the manufacturer to discontinue some of its best-selling vehicles without clear future plans has sparked skepticism among enthusiasts.

As previously stated, Nissan has not issued an official statement on this matter, and the company’s spokesperson was unable to confirm the fate of the sedans. However, the spokesperson affirmed Nissan’s commitment to the sedan segment. Consequently, given the sales figures and performance, it is likely that the Altima will remain relevant in the foreseeable future.

Changes to Expect

Nissan plans to cease production of the Maxima following the 2023 model year. Similarly, the future looks uncertain for the company’s Titan pickup, which is set to conclude production at the Canton assembly plant in Mississippi around the summer of 2024. This move will leave the Frontier as the sole survivor in Nissan’s lineup. Additionally, there are reports suggesting that Nissan may introduce an electric version of the Frontier in 2029, possibly for the 2030 model year, as a replacement for their midsize truck.

Automotive News reports that Nissan is discontinuing the Maxima, Altima, and Versa in favor of an upcoming electric sedan anticipated to debut around 2026. Nissan’s official statement, however, indicates that two electric vehicles are slated to commence production at the Canton assembly plant around 2025, likely as 2026 models. One of these zero-emission vehicles will bear the Nissan brand, while Infiniti will be responsible for marketing the other. This strategic move aligns with Nissan’s Ambition 2030 electrification plan, which aims to introduce a total of 27 electrified vehicles by fiscal year 2030, including 19 fully electric vehicles.

It’s worth noting that despite the impending conclusion of Maxima production, a Nissan spokesperson shared an intriguing statement with Car and Driver, hinting at staying “attuned for future Nissan Maxima news.” This suggests an optimistic perspective for the car in the era of electrification.
